The Crayon Fields are a Melbourne
based three-piece band that have been playing shows up and down Australia’s
East Coast since late 2002. Their sound has been loosely described as
psychedelic splendour and fragmented indie-pop. Under the influence of
bands such as Galaxy 500, Velvet Underground, Beach Boys, The Swirlies,
The Zombies, The Turtles, The Clean and The Moody Blues they have refined
their own unique sound. Shifting seamlessly from sparse pop to elaborate
psychedelic washes, they produce a wide variety of textures and layers
that come unexpected from their deceptively small three-piece line up. The Crayon Field’s have now completed their 2nd release entitled ‘The Good Life’. ‘The Good Life’ is a 6 track EP that was recorded to tape in a large hall in the leafy outer suburbs of Melbourne. This setting, coupled with the imaginative recording technique of engineer Simon Knight proved to be ideal for the band to capture and refine their lush, distinctive sound. The band then lovingly prepared artwork for the release and took the recording to be professionally mastered by Franc Tetaz at Moose. The Good Life’ was released in August through Cavalier/Shock with two packed launches in Melbourne and Sydney. It’s title track has been played constantly on RRR, PBS, JJJ, 2SER, 4ZZZZ, FBI and SYN FM and a video for the song has found its way onto ABC’s Rage. Countless articles and enthusiastic reviews of the bands performances and recordings have appeared in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane Street Press as well as Melbourne’s The Age Newspaper. |
