Forming a couple of years ago due to their mutual loves of beer, music, classic pop/rock and beer, the Hovercrafts’ career trajectory has gone in leaps and bounds. They’ve thrilled packed-out rooms in Sydney, Adelaide, and all of Melbourne’s legendary live venues, playing alongside lauded bands including Tim Rogers and the Temperence Union, The Smallgoods, The Pictures, The Cops, Peabody, Treetops and The City Lights.

A HoverGig generally finds hips swinging, ponytails swishing, hands clapping and faces smiling (though that might be the beer) as the crowds get down to the band’s brilliant brand of ‘lectric guitar gilded power pop. As if that wasn’t good enough, in late-’03, the band found their on-the-cheap recording of crowd favourite “For The Love And The Sound” doing the rounds on Triple J,Triple R, and FBI radio, with the J’s featuring the band during Aus Music Month and putting the track into high rotation over the summer and well into 2004’s Net50 – not bad for a demo! The same track was included on the compilation Shake Yer Popboomerang 2, and the band has enjoyed rave reviews dished out by hard-to-impress critics from
Sydney to Italy to America! On the strength of a couple of demos and a detailed game plan, 2004 also saw the Hovercrafts’ potential recognised by the Nescafe Big Break. One of six winners from
over 4000 entries from Australia and New Zealand, they received a 25,000 dollar cash grant to fund their exploits!

Fast forward to mid 2005 and the Hovercrafts have struck a deal with Cavalier and Shock Records to release their much anticipated debut “The Get Around EP”. Recorded and mixed to tape at Melbourne’s Sing Sing studios by Matt Maddock (Dan Kelly, Something For Kate, End of Fashion) the EP has captured the Hovercrafts’ quintessential live sound that has won such a steady live following. From the infectious pounding piano pop of “For the Love and the Sound” and the sweet, heartbreaking swagger of “One Million Regrets” and “Around for Hours,” right through to hook laden,
get-up-and-dance rockers “Shake Some” and “Damage Control,” every moment is a carefully crafted blend of melody and fun lovin’ rock sensibility.

With the EP under their belts, The Hovercrafts are hitting the road to celebrate the release. Throughout July and August they will bring the excitement and energy of their live show to audiences across Australia, and no doubt build upon their already thriving
fan base.
